COMMUNITY AWARENESS

The Harris Family and Furnitureland South's Philanthropical Contributions

The Harris Family, who own Furnitureland South, has approached philanthropy in the same way they conduct their business: hands on and full speed ahead. They are committed to excellence in the community just as they are committed to offering excellence to their customers. Furnitureland South is a strong contributor to the local communities located throughout North Carolina, as well as to survivors of catastrophes in other parts of our nation. All of Furnitureland South's employees embrace this philanthropic culture by personally embracing and contributing to the numerous charitable events in which Furnitureland South participates. Following is an overview of some of the charitable donations, contributions and community involvement in which Furnitureland South and its employees have participated by giving time, talent and treasury.

Brenner Children’s Hospital

Brenner Children's Hospital, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina was given complimentary design expertise, furniture and accessories for a Special Care Room in the Brenner Children’s Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The room is being designed around the theme of a book entitled “Waterbugs and Dragonflies”, by Doris Stickney, that explains death to young children. The Special Care Room is being created so families of terminally ill children may spend their child’s last days and hours in a comforting, soothing environment. Stickney adapted the graceful fable about how a water bug transforms into a dragonfly and leaves the water and his friends. Furnitureland South has created a room made to look like a page right out of the book, including wall murals, bedding and window treatments. The room is presently being up-fitted with equipment to accommodate the special needs of the children.

Please check back for photography of the finished room.

Victory Junction Gang Camp
